GUIDING PRINCIPLES
We value all that we've accomplished in on-the-ground wetland protection projects to date and intend to build upon that legacy. Above all, we recognize the value of collaborative efforts in accomplishing our work.
As partners in the Montana Wetlands Legacy we will:
- Protect wetlands, riparian areas, and associated uplands through incentives and voluntary means
- Protect wetlands for the habitat values they provide, including: wetland-dependent plant and animal communities and habitat for imperiled, threatened, and endangered species
- Protect wetlands for the hydrologic benefits they provide including: flood storage and attenuation, groundwater recharge, erosion reduction, and water quality enhancement
- Protect wetlands for the societal benefits they provide, including: enjoyment of open space, recreational opportunities, and as special places to enhance our understanding and appreciation of the natural world
- Share what is ours to meet our goal: our time, our technological and financial resources, our knowledge and understanding, and especially our commitment and caring
- Learn from and value the diversity and complexity of wetland systems by bringing people together with diverse backgrounds, training, and experience
