CURRENT PROJECTS
Visit the following project links to see recent accomplishments by the Montana Wetlands Legacy Partnership partner organizations.
GORDON CATTLE COMPANY CONSERVATION EASEMENT PROJECT Not only is the Gordon Ranch home to a diverse grassland wildlife community, the abundance of prairie pothole wetlands is essential to wildlife in this semi-arid part of Montana.
CAMP CREEK WETLAND PROJECT
In the shadow of Chief Joseph Pass on the Montana/Idaho border, the Montana Department of Transportation and its partners have restored over two miles of Camp Creek and its floodplain wetlands. This vital headwaters valley is rapidly becoming a mecca for fish and wildlife.
THE GLACIATED VALLEYS OF NORTHWEST MONTANA
Although the Flathead and Mission Valleys are among the fastest developing areas in Montana, Montana Wetlands Legacy Partners in Northwest Montana have pulled together a powerful partnership to conserve the best-of-the-best habitat in the area. Throughout the Flathead Watershed, land protection coupled with restoration projects have conserved over 60,000 acres of vital wetlands, riparian areas, and watershed lands.
PHILLIPPI RESERVOIR
Tucked away in southeastern Montana is this wetland gem, a prairie reservoir with a complex of bays and inlets. Phillippi Reservoir, now over 90 years old, has developed high-functioning wetland qualities, both within and along its shores. The area is a critical oasis for breeding birds and other wildlife in this semi-arid landscape.
BIRD CREEK
An historic Missouri River ranch with extensive wetlands and riparian areas, the Bird Creek Ranch calls to current-day Montanans to experience its wonders while echoing the voices of a storied and colorful past. Within its 2,000-acre-plus borders, the Bird Creek Ranch’s owners maintain a strong ranch economy while ensuring a future of habitat conservation as part of their Montana legacy.
STRAUSER 66
Just south of the U.S. border with Canada, the Strauser family has worked with Montana Wetlands Legacy Partners to restore and conserve their unique Hi-Line property in perpetuity. Through their efforts, this prairie-wetland landscape provides vital breeding areas for waterfowl and other wildlife while conserving soil, water and wetlands for the benefit of future generations.
